The Tourism Business Index (TBI) is compiled quarterly and provides an indication of the current and likely future performance of the various businesses operating in the tourism sector in South Africa. It profiles the industry and positions it as an important component of the South African economy.

Based on interviews with business leaders, the first edition for 2011 shows that trading conditions appear to be below average and are expected to remain there during the year.
