  • Re-centre struggle against poverty and oppression: part of a wider agenda of human liberation
  • Opportunity to confront the largely uncontested global (and national) development trajectory
  • Re-sourcing voice and consciousness of the ‘rural people’
  • The rural agenda re-centres  the gender agenda
  • Economic development and economic democracy
  • Centrality and functionality of the state
