Event: Green Jobs Learning Forum
Date:
04. April 2011 - 21. April 2011
The potential of green jobs exists at all levels of economic development, in different sectors and types of enterprises, in rural and urban areas. National frameworks for changing existing jobs and creating new ones are as important as local implementation strategies. Policy makers and local practitioners need to make the appropriate links and seek synergies for better results.
This interagency learning forum is a highly interactive programme designed to support key actors in shaping complementary green jobs strategies at the local, regional and national level. Participants will get to know a range of existing local level best practices and tools and will engage with top-level resource persons. The forum has a strong focus on tailoring lessons learnt to the actual work situations of participants.
The Objectives
The Learning Forum provides participants with knowledge, tools and examples of good practices to enhance their skills in the design and implementation of effective local strategies for the promotion of green jobs. After participating in the Learning Forum, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the linkage between climate change and sustainable local development;
- Appraise best practices of green development strategies and their potential for enterprise development and decent job creation;
- Contribute to shape local strategies and actions for green jobs
The Curriculum
The Learning Forum is articulated around three segments. The first segment (5 days) discusses local practices. The second one (5 days) consists of learning visits hosted by the OECD LEED Centre in Trento, Italy. The last segment (4 days) addresses policy issues at both national and local level.
It is offered in 4 languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish). Candidates will have the choice of 3 programme options (see attachment) and will be awarded a Certificate issued by the International Training Centre of the ILO.
The Learning Forum foresees a high degree of international knowledge sharing among experts from a wide range of countries.
Early application is strongly encouraged as the number of participants per language is limited. Candidates from outside the Schengen Area should apply at least 6 weeks before the program start date in view of lengthy visa procedures.
Admission requirements
Admission to the programme will be made on a competitive basis, considering the applicant’s current level of responsibility and potential for future contribution to his/her community and organization.
Application deadline: 27 February 2011.
