Event: Economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa Conference, Midrand

Date:
13. July 2011 - 14. July 2011
According to the Economic Report on Africa (2010), Africa’s long term growth prospects and ability to sustain high rates of employment generation and broader social development depend on success in economic diversification. The report also adds that appropriate investment infrastructure and human capital, renewed and creative efforts to increase productivity and incomes in the informal sector are needed. The economic development conference will create a platform for political figures, academics and decision makers from Sub-Saharan Africa in order to engage and determine what strategies and programs to apply the Sub-Saharan African economic development dilemma in order to attain lasting sustainable economic development. Amongst the topics will be discussed the importance of Black business development for African states communities as an approach to bring in and encourage everyone to take advantages of the benefits that the economic sphere can offer. As we approach 2015, how can we make sure that the challenges within the different sectors of the economy are scrutinized and addressed in order to improve living standards and reach the Millennium Declaration Goals? Partnership within the African states being an important aspect to regional development, how do we address the challenges in the context of political and regional integration and meet the agenda previously set by NEPAD? As we strive to pave the way forward we need to examine these issues.
