Event: Sports & Events Tourism Exchange Conference 2011
Date:
27. July 2011 - 29. July 2011 The first of its kind to be held in South Africa, the SETE “confex” will showcase the global standard of facilities and services that South Africa has to offer as a host for top level international events.
With numerous sporting and life-style events on South Africa’s events calendar each year the country has demonstrated a strong track-record for pulling off the really great events. As highlighted by the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ the links between the hospitality, leisure, sport and tourism networks are self evident, highlighting the positive correlations between these markets and the economy of the event hosting country.
In addition to facilitating strategic business linkages, SETE will also focus on practical ways to enhance the bidding, promotion and management of mega sports and recreation events. A comprehensive and informative ‘Sports and Events Tourism Exchange Conference’ will take place from the 27th - 28th July 2011. The conference will offer an intensive one day conference with key note addresses, followed by a full day of educational workshops.
The SETE conference boasts with international speakers from diverse fields such as sports management, tourism, sports sponsorship, branding and political science. The conference will serve as a platform for these experts to strategise on how South Africa can sustain and build on its 2010 success and grow sports tourism into a multibillion rand industry. The conference is set to kick off with Daniel Jordaan, Vice President of the South African Football Association and the previous Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup LOC, delivering the keynote address on the legacy of the FIFA World Cup.
Other industry pundits include Professor Kamilla Swart, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business and head of the Centre for Tourism Research in Africa at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology who will chair the conference.
