SA Automotive Industry

Dear SA LED Network Member,

We wish all of you a happy and successful 2012! Let us continue sharing our experiences and working together towards sustainable and effective LED in order to contribute to growth and job creation in South Africa!

Event: At the beginning of this new year, it is worth looking at what might lie ahead in 2012. In this context, GIBS is hosting a 1-Day "Economic Outlook Conference 2012" on 31 January in Durban. More information is available here

Document: Members can also download BUSA's recently published economic forecast which assesses external and internal economic factors, as well as threats and opportunities for the South African economy in 2012. The document can be accessed by clicking on the image below:

Artice: In our story section, you will find a very interesting article by Mario Polese, "Urban-Development Legends - Why grand theories do little to revive cities", published in the City Journal. Polese argues that cities are often very limited in promoting economic development. Instead of pushing quick fixes and using grand theories (such as targeted tax incentives, establishment of new high-tech clusters or industrial parks), cities should rather focus on providing mandated services at reasonable costs, such as keeping streets safe and creating a well-functioning infrastructure. Read the full article here.

Document: In our online library, you find a report published by the International Finance Corporation: Accelerating Inclusive Business Opportunities - Business Models tha Make a Difference. Please download the document by clicking on the image below:

Event: The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is offering a Small Business Enrichment Programme (SBEP) to help entrepreneurs grow and strengthen their small businesses. The programme starts on 16 January (to 12 April 2012). Please find out more here.
