Economy in the province
Although the smallest of all the provinces, Gauteng is the powerhouse of South Africa and the heart of its commercial business and industrial sectors. Gauteng has kept a continued trend of sustained growth over the past Ten years-reaching a growth rate of 5.6% in the Fourth Quarter of 2004. The most important sectors contributing to the Gross Domestic Product are the Finance, Real Estate and Business Services, Manufacturing and General Government services. Tourism continues to receive focus as a priority growth sector in Gauteng. The province is also the financial services capital of Africa. Gauteng accounts for the bulk of all employees remuneration in the country at 47.7% and is also responsible for 50.4% of all company turnover.
