Employment SA 2011: Formal vs. Informal?
Dear SA LED Network Member,
Stats SA has published its latest employment report last week, stating that South Africa has lost almost 400 000 jobs compared to 2010 due to the world economic crisis that hit the country. To read our story and to download the full job report, please click here.
Document: We've added a study exploring the legal context of informal trade in South Africa to our online library. The document, authored by Ibrahim Steyn, was commissioned by the Ecumenical Service for Socio-Economic Transform (ESSET). To download the document, please click on the image below:
Document: You also find the publication Formal-informal economy linkages and unemployment in South Africa on our website written by Rob Davies and James Thurlow. The paper states that high unemployment in South Africa is attributed to an underperforming formal sector and to the inability of the unemployed to enter informal labour markets. Please click here to view the document.
Event: The Collective Leadership Institute (CLI) will host a seminar on "Working with Stakeholder Dialogues" in Cape Town from 08 - 11 November 2011. To find out more and to register, please click here.
Job: The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is seeking an Executive Director for Economic Development. Closing date is 10 October 2011. Details on how and where to apply can be found here.
