Vision

SALGA and the South African LED Network management have co-created the future vision of the SA LED Network within in the South African LED debate. Key to this consensus was that the SA LED Network will:

  • Serve as the LED knowledge & information-sharing platform for all LED activity nationwide,
  • Operate in an open access, transparent and accountable manner without membership fees,
  • Ensure a public sector focus, especially on Local Government,
  • Include the current partners of the LED Network to support the future management and direction of the Network.

Mission

The South African LED Network in association with SALGA will create mutual benefit to both parties as well as the wider partnerships with LED and other organisations and provide fundamental support down to the local level through enhanced services, including:

  • A forum for the exchange of knowledge and successful LED practice, for municipal peer-to-peer support and learning across disciplines;
  • An expanding membership base especially within local government;
  • A platform for improved co-ordination of two-way LED information exchange and sharing;
  • An online space for research and collaborative working on specific LED issues, such as informal trade, tourism and agriculture;
  • Free access to the latest thinking, news, events, information, tools, publications, case studies, awareness-raising presentations, etc. through an extensive LED library and LED news dissemination strategy; and
  • A platform for networking among practitioners from different sectors.
